During the Google I/O 2018 event, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced six new voices were coming to Google Assistant today. In addition to these voices, Pichai also announced that John Legend has worked with Google to train their machine learning Wavenet algorithm to convert his voice into another Assistant voice that will be coming out later this year.

Pichai explained that John Legend came in for a short period of time where he answered questions, sang, and spoke brief sentences. Google’s Wavenet algorithm was then able to learn the nuances and tones of John Legend’s voice in order to create a full voice that will be available to Assistant later this year.

The new version of the assistant, which features both male and female voices, is built on a a tech machine learning technology called Wavenet, which the company started building out some 18 months ago. Google’s working on rolling out more customized version of the AI with custom dialects across the globe.

Once available, you will be able to hear Legend telling you the weather, your upcoming schedule, and answers to your questions. To see this in action, you can view the video below.
